"With CHAMPS, we hope to raise awareness that men can take charge of their own health and live longer through disease prevention, early detection and treatment.” Last year, CHAMPS provided health screenings for more than 450 men from the metro Atlanta area. Through the screening process we were able to catch an early diagnosis of prostate cancer for a 32 year old male who came out to a previous CHAMPS event. prostate cancer screening and health education among African-American men remains a relatively large problem. While CHAMPS offers education and health screenings for all men, it specifically targets the medically underserved who have limited access to health care and are at greater risk for developing certain life-threatening health problems. CHAMPS is a collaborative project with a consortium of private and public entities interested in addressing men's health concerns by raising awareness of the importance of early detection and disease treatment.
