YMCA After School Child Care Available at Moorpark Schools

Aug. 13, 2012 - PRLog -- Moorpark, Calif.--Parents of Moorpark students in kindergarten through sixth grades can sign up their children for Conejo Valley YMCA after school child care. The child care programs take place on Moorpark campuses.

   YMCA afterschool facilities are at Peach Hill and Mountain Meadows elementary schools. After school transportation is provided to these sites for kids from Arroyo West, Flory, Campus Canyon, Walnut Canyon elementary schools and Chaparral and Mesa Verde middle schools.

   The Conejo Valley YMCA provides comprehensive, age-appropriate, engaging child care programs focusing on eight core content areas: arts and humanities, character development, health and wellness, homework support, literacy, STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), service learning, social competence and conflict resolution.

   New this year is a YMCA national commitment to adopt healthy eating and physical activity standards for afterschool programs. The program establishes a minimum of physical activity for children of different ages enrolled in YMCA afterschool programs. It also defines food and beverage offerings including designating water as the primary beverage during snack times and offering fruits and vegetables as snack options.

   "The Y is committed to do its part to help kids exercise and eat healthy," says Meghan Lopez, aquatics, camps and child care director at the Conejo Valley YMCA, which services Moorpark, Thousand Oaks and the Santa Rosa Valley. "Research has shown that kids who participate in physical activity and have healthier diets do better in school."

   Full time and part time care is available. Child care is also available through the other branches of the Southeast Ventura County YMCA.
