Elswick, Hunt, and Waddles Named as New Summit Engineering Partners

Pikeville, KY. (August 13, 2012) – Jack Sykes, President and CEO announced three new partners at Summit Engineering today. “I am extremely pleased to name Philip Elswick, Jody Hunt, and Jack Waddles, as partners,” said Sykes.

(August 13, 2012) – Jack Sykes, President and CEO announced three new partners at Summit Engineering today. “I am extremely pleased to name Philip Elswick, Jody Hunt, and Jack Waddles, as partners,” said Sykes. “They will undoubtedly add value and expertise to the ongoing efforts of the Summit Engineering team, and I am very optimistic in the company’s upcoming endeavors.  The senior leadership has set the strategic direction for the company, and we are taking steps to strengthen the company for the future.”

Philip Elswick, P.E., will continue being Director of the Environmental Services for Summit Engineering (since 2008) as an Associate Principal.  He holds a BS and MS in Chemical Engineering from University Kentucky and been with Summit since 2004. “I’m happy that Summit is thriving, and I’m eager to see the exciting directions the organization will take in the months and years to come,” said Elswick.  Elswick is a registered engineer for seven states, VA, KY, OH, PA, TN, TX and WV.  He has served as President of the KSPE the Big Sandy Chapter and continues to serve as State Director.  He also is a member of the KY Society of Professional Engineers Board of Directors and the Pikeville Scholar House Board of Directors. Elswick has made presentations to the Kentucky Legislation, Kentucky Society of Professional Engineers, National Association of Abandoned Mine Lands, and the Pike County LNG Summit.  He is a native of Pikeville/Pike County and the son of Jewell and the late Richard Elswick.  He and his wife, Finicia live in Pikeville with their English Bulldog.  He is a member of the Fords Branch Church of Christ.  Whenever he gets the opportunity, he enjoys reading, golfing and fishing.

Jody Hunt, P.E., has been with Summit since 2001 and has served as Sr. Project Engineer and Manager of the Pikeville Civil Division since 2008.  As an Associate Principal, he will continue overseeing his division. “I am honored to be named as Associate Principal and to work for such an excellent company,” said Hunt. “I understand the values that a company like Summit brings in advancing innovative, yet practical, approaches to our clients’ projects.” Hunt is a graduate of University of Kentucky and a member of the Big Sandy Chapter of KSPE – Kentucky Society of Civil Engineers and was recently elected as President. He has also served as KSPE Treasurer and Vice President for that chapter.  Hunt has extensive experience in civil engineering, public service and business, as well as a dedication for his work. He also serves as client representative for the Mountain Water District, City of Pikeville, American Electric Power, Pike County Fiscal Court, City of Elkhorn City, Appalachian Industrial Authority and the Kentucky Department of Transportation.  Hunt is a native of Pike County and lives in the Johns Creek Area with his wife, Heather and 5 year old son, Jonathan Grant.  He is a member of Peter Creek Presbyterian Church in Phelps, KY. In his spare time, he enjoys fishing, hunting and golf.  He is the son of Gary and Janet Hunt.

Jack Waddles, AIA, CID, Director of Architectural Services has been with Summit for 5 years and has been Director of Summit Architectural Services since 2008 overseeing all design and federal and state construction documents.  A graduate of Kent State University, Waddles is a member of the AIA (American Institute of Architects) of KY and East Kentucky, the AIA Kentucky Committee on Architecture for Education and AIA Academy for Justice.  He is a Registered Architect in KY, WVA, and VA.  He and his wife, Katheen live in Whitesburg and are the proud parents of three children, Morgan, Jason and Courtney. Waddles is a member of the First Baptist Church of Whitesburg and serves as a Deacon, teacher and youth leader.  He enjoys golf, basketball, and softball.

Bradley Slone and Charlie Dale were named as Associates for Summit Engineering. Brad Slone is responsible for supervision of a staff that works in all areas of design, planning, permitting and development for various underground and surface mining operations, refuse disposal areas, slurry impoundments, and coal handling systems at Summit’s Big Rock, Virginia office.  He has project management responsibilities for Summit mining engineering projects in Virginia and Kentucky.  Slone has also had a supervisory role in Summit Engineering’s.   Charlie Dale joined Summit Engineering, Inc. in July 2003 as Project Manager in the Mining department.  With a brief break, Dale rejoined Summit Engineering, Inc. in March 2007 as Project Manager in the Mining department.  Dale is responsible for work assignments, support and guidance to technical, drafting and clerical staff to assure projects will be completed in a timely manner and on budget.  Duties include client relations, quality control and technical design, reserve studies, sediment control and drainage plans, slope stability, spoil storage and subsidence control.
