For 30 years, Hope for the Hungry has served the local community and has changed the lives of thousands throughout the entire world. Education has become a major focus of Hope for the Hungry in an effort to help break the cycle of generational poverty in Haiti. Only 52.9% of people in Haiti over the age of 15 can read and write and only 65% of school aged children are enrolled in school, mainly due to poverty. Over half (55%) of Haiti’s population is living below the poverty line of $1.24 per day, making the cost of education a major challenge for parents to send their children to school in Haiti. Hope for the Hungry has been serving in Haiti since 1982 and believes providing an education can help break the cycle of generational poverty in Haiti. All proceeds from the “Taste of Hope” event at McAlister’s Deli will go towards Hope for the Hungry’s efforts to “Share the Bread of Life with a Starving World.”
