“We know each other well, and you can hear that connection in the music,” she said.
Ms. Chesis performed with Ms. Carney and Mr. Avshalomov last season at the Cooperstown Summer Music Festival, in their roles in the American String Quartet. All three also teach at the Manhattan School of Music. Noted cellist William Grubb is Ms. Carney’s husband, and pianist Shirley Irek has performed at the Festival numerous times, and at other festivals with Ms. Chesis as part of the Broyhill Chamber Ensemble.
The concert program is: Turina’s Piano Quartet, Op. 67, Beethoven’s Serenade for Flute Violin and Viola, Op. 25 and Gabriel Fauré’s Piano Quartet No. 1 in C. minor, Op. 15.
“With this program, we want to transport the audience to Europe on a grand tour, starting in Turina’s Madrid with those fiery Andalusian rhythms, moving back in time to Vienna where Beethoven resided, and finally to Paris, with the sumptuous and romantic piano quartet by Fauré,” says Chesis. “And there’s no better seat to be an armchair traveler than in the beautiful ballroom of the Otesaga, overlooking the lake on a summer afternoon.”
