Swing to the sounds of Rat Pack classics and Big Band favourites at Oystermouth Castle

Aug. 10, 2012 - PRLog -- For many, the names Martin and Sinatra are synonymous with a bygone era which will always be remembered for its music.

And fans of the Rat Pack era can enjoy these music legends once again when the renowned Phil Dando Big Band returns to one of Swansea’s most iconic castles for an evening of memorable Big Band classics, Rat Pack greats and more from the golden age of Swing.

Oystermouth Castle welcomes the Big Band Years on Friday, 17 August featuring favourites from Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Nat King Cole, Matt Monroe, including classics such as Come Fly with Me, Fly Me To The Moon, Pennies From Heaven, Mack the Knife, Sway and more.  

Following on from last year’s performance Phil Dando Big Band is pleased to be returning to Oystermouth Castle.  

Phil Dando, said, “This is our second performance at Oystermouth Castle and one which we are looking forward to playing.  It is a great venue for us to perform at and one which provides such a unique back drop which only adds to the music.

“The band, along with our fabulous vocalists, produces a wonderfully rich sound and will bring many of the classic Rat Pack tunes back to life for your enjoyment as well as a wide range of music from the Big Band Era, created by trumpeter and arranger Mike Blake.  We’ll also bring you right up to date with Bassey, Bublé and even some Tom Jones!  It is an evening not to be missed and we guarantee that you will want to get up and dance.”

Tickets are £10 in advance and £11 on the day, with concessions also available.  Gates open at 6.30pm with the performance beginning at 7.30pm.

Frances Jenkins, Swansea Council’s Strategic Manager for Tourism, Marketing and Events, said, “Oystermouth Castle provides an unique backdrop for events in Swansea and is an ideal setting for outdoor music performances.

“We are looking forward to bringing the popular and entertaining Phil Dando Big Band back to Oystermouth and we would encourage people to bring deck chairs and a picnic to make the most of their experience.”
