The New York City Slickers perform Bluegrass Concert at the SCHC

Aug. 9, 2012 - PRLog -- The Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation is extremely proud to be part of the “Mississippi Home” tour of the New York City Slickers, as they present their “Big Apple Style” of bluegrass.  They are one of New York City’s premier bluegrass bands.  The concert will be held on Wednesday, October 10 at 7:30 in the historic Southern Cultural Heritage Auditorium.  Admission is $5/per person.

The NYCity Slickers are coming to Mississippi!  Inspired by a genuine love of their Mississippi roots and authentic American roots music, they have been thrilling NYC audiences with their unique "Big Apple Bluegrass" and are now excited to entertain the folks from back home.  The "Mississippi Home" tour is a reflection of their musical journey. "Home" is at the heart of bluegrass and the South and they are thrilled to be coming full circle, bringing their "Big Apple Bluegrass" music down to their family and fans in Mississippi.

The New York City Slickers, an eight piece high energy, progressive bluegrass band with a Big Apple style, was formed by two Millsaps grads from Jackson, Annie Chadwick and Faser Hardin, and their daughter, Abigail Hardin.  Founded in 2008, the group combines the wailing tight harmonies and talents of three beautiful singers with the hard driving sound of five musically gifted musicians on banjo, guitar, mandolin, fiddle, bass and accordion. The sound is a synthesis of traditional bluegrass, zydeco, Delta blues and country pop, resulting in theatrically inspired, toe tappin', one of a kind, rocking fun music.  Inspired by a genuine love of their Mississippi roots and authentic American roots music, the NYCity Slickers have thrilled NYC audiences with their unique synthesis of traditional bluegrass, zydeco, Delta blues & country pop.  Having had much East Coast success, the NYCity Slickers are excited to be traveling South to entertain the folks from back home.  Their "Big Apple Bluegrass" sound has been described as a fusion of the Andrews Sisters, the Dixie Chicks and Bill Monroe resulting in theatrically inspired, toe tappin', one-of-a-kind, rockin' fun music.  

Their debut CD, “Layin’ It Down,” was released on September 8, 2011.  The album is an eclectic mix of musical styles that has become characteristic of the NYCity Slickers’ signature sound.  Composed of 13 songs, eight of which are original, the album ranges in style from traditional bluegrass and Delta blues to progressive bluegrass pop.  “Layin’ It Down” is the artistic culmination of the past four years and reflects the best of the NYCity Slickers.  The album is available through iTunes, CD Baby, Amazon and NYCitySlickers.com.

This concert is part of the many programs and events surrounding the Hobbs Freeman Art and Nature Celebration.  The Celebration is made possible by a grant from the National Park Service's Lower Mississippi Delta Initiative.
