The audience consisting of members of Kappa Alpha Psi, Fraternity; members of the Kappa Leadership Development League and their families; and the scholarship recipients and their families were treated to the keynote address from fraternity member, Brother Jeffrey E. Mills, Pastor of the Greater St. Luke Primitive Baptist Church in Palmetto, Florida. Additionally, the members of the Kappa Leadership Development League were recognized for their achievements throughout the past year with two members being awarded the coveted Knight of the Year Award and Student of the Year Award that were presented to Brailon Miles and Steven Larson Jr. respectively. The Winter Park Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi recognized this year’s scholarship recipients who are just three students to be awarded a portion of the $74,000 worth of scholarships the chapter has provided to local students over the last 20 years.
The Winter Park Kappa Leadership Development League is the youth mentoring component of the Winter Park Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, Fraternity Inc. The program mentors young men in grades 7 -12 and promotes personal development, academic achievement and college and career preparation. For the third year in a row, the program has maintained a 100% college matriculation rate for its graduating seniors. The Winter Park Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi has been serving the Central Florida community since 1992. The chapter has consistently displayed a commitment to youth with their participation in numerous youth initiatives, some of which have allowed the chapter to be awarded the Orange County Citizens Commission for Children’s “Children Must Count” Award in addition to being named small chapter of the year.
