By: The Forum The report, “The Value of Achieving Organizational Health,” is the third in a new series of targeted and concise research packages designed for C-suite executives. Researchers at Northwestern University and the University of Wisconsin discuss how creating engaged employees delivers a dual benefit of increasing both employee productivity and increased customer satisfaction. The report is based on an extensive study conducted at a major New York City hospital, which found that: • Higher levels of patient satisfaction equal better patient experiences. • Patients with higher levels of satisfaction are more likely to recommend the hospital to other potential patients. Word of mouth, more than any other source of marketing promotion, is a primary driver in patient care experience. • Individual employee recognition was identified as a key contributor to employee satisfaction. One of the study’s authors, Forum Academic Director Dr. Frank Mulhern of Northwestern University, said, “In the health care industry, as in other service-related businesses, having engaged, empowered, loyal employees can lead to increased retention, lower costs, enhanced reputation, and a profitable business picture.” The research report contains several practical communication, feedback, and recognition ideas C-suite officers may use to improve their own business picture.
