Jazz legend Stan Tracey is to headline the 2012 Dylan Thomas Festival on Saturday 27 October.

PRLog - Aug. 10, 2012 - Jazz legend Stan Tracey is to headline the 2012 Dylan Thomas Festival on Saturday 27 October.

Stan Tracey will perform a jazz version of ‘A Child’s Christmas in Wales’ at the Festival’s opening at the Dylan Thomas Centre and will be accompanied by his current quartet, which now includes Stan’s 21 year old grandson, Ben Tracey, as narrator.

Inspired by Dylan Thomas’ short story A Child’s Christmas in Wales, Stan has put pen to paper for the first time in over 10 years to compose this new suite.

Stan Tracey said “I've always had a particular fondness for Dylan Thomas' short story ‘A Child's Christmas in Wales’ because it evokes so many memories of when I was a child.

“I hope the music reflects some of the pleasure it gave me.'

Swansea Council organises the annual Dylan Thomas Festival which has become a major event in the literary calendar.

Councillor Nick Bradley, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration added “We are delighted to secure a name of Stan Tracey’s calibre for the 2012 Dylan Thomas Festival and this event will definitely appeal to fans of both Dylan Thomas and Stan Tracey.

“This is a great headline for the 2012 Festival and perfect for the build up to the centenary of the birth of Dylan Thomas in 2014, when a series of exciting events are being planned to commemorate one of the world’s greatest poets”.

Tickets will go on sale for A Child's Christmas by the Stan Tracey Quartet on Friday 10 August.

Tickets are priced from £7 - £25 and are available from the Dylan Thomas Centre on 01792 463980 or http://www.ticketsource.co.uk/dylanthomas.

The Dylan Thomas Festival returns from 27 October to 9 November and features Graham Hunter, Paul Durcan, Samantha Wynne Rhydderch, Nigel Jenkins  Menna Elfyn, Ros Barber, Kevin Barry and Roshi Fernando.
