Aug. 7, 2012 - In an uncertain financial environment, while most companies are proceeding cautiously, Ebsco Spring Company is expanding. Ebsco Spring Company is interviewing to launch a new second shift. As Ebsco’s business increases, machine availability creates scheduling opportunities. To continue their commitment to short lead times and on-time delivery to their customers, Ebsco is expanding to a second shift. Ebsco CEO, Cheryl Dooley said “the obvious answer to increasing machine availability is to run the machines more hours. We could buy additional equipment but we would rather increase the operating hours of existing machines and utilize the capital budget to purchase different machines to increase our product line offering to customers.”
In their progressive style, Ebsco is not expanding into the evening for its second shift as most companies would. Ebsco’
s current first shift consists of four ten hour days, Monday through Thursday. They are creating a second shift that will consist of three twelve hour shifts Friday through Sunday. Workers will start the day at 6am and work until 6pm. “That allows them to still enjoy the evenings and not effect normal sleep patterns” said VP of Production, Todd Pfeifer. Ebsco is paying a four hour shift differential so employees will receive a full forty hours per week pay and full benefits. Pfeifer added that this is a great opportunity for parents with young children. If the other parent works the traditional Monday through Friday, Ebsco’s second shift would only require them to obtain child care on Friday. In addition college students would have less scheduling conflicts. For those looking to work two jobs, Ebsco’s three days a week opens new opportunities. “The three day a week schedule address our production need while giving employees opportunities they can’t find most places” said Pfeifer.
