The i-ELOOP system is Mazda’s brake energy regeneration system. This unique system uses a capacitor, an electric component that stores large amounts of energy, rather than a battery. As a vehicle decelerates, the i-ELOOP converts its kinetic energy into electricity, which can power the audio system, climate control and even charge the vehicle’s battery when necessary.
The i-ELOOP name stems from “Intelligent Energy Loop,” as this design allows energy to cycle in an intelligent manner.
The redesigned Mazda6 will make its debut in the U.S. starting at the beginning of 2013.
