Aug. 7, 2012 - PRLog -- WINCHESTER, VA (August 6, 2012)—Winchester Family Health Center, located at 525 Amherst Street in Winchester, Virginia, practices as the only Community Health Center for Winchester and Frederick and Clarke counties. Community Health Centers provide a unique and comprehensive approach to health care that saves money, improves patient health, and creates good local jobs in the communities that they serve. National Health Center Week is sponsored by the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) and for nearly thirty years has been ‘Celebrating America’s Health Centers’.
Winchester Family Health Center is a unique medical home, acting as a primary care provider to many patients and serving the uninsured or special populations in need. “As a community health center, we have a patient-centered approach; encouraging patients to ask questions and manage their care with us. If a child begins their immunization schedule with us, we want them to become a life-long patient. If an aging adult is in relatively good health, we want to promote preventative care through recommended diagnostic testing and help them track their care and needs as they age,” says Dannie Wall, Director of Winchester Family Health Center.
Winchester Family Health Center seeks community awareness during National Health Center Week. “We want patients to know that they have access to care at a nationally supported health center in this area,” says Wall.
WHAT ARE HEALTH CENTERS?
Community, Migrant, Homeless, and Public Housing Health Centers are non-profit, community-directed health care providers serving low income and medically underserved communities.  For over 40 years, the national network of health centers has provided high-quality, affordable primary and preventive care, as well as dental, mental health and substance abuse, and pharmacy services.  Also known as Federally-Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), they are located in areas where care is needed but scarce, and improve access to care for millions of Americans regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay.  Their costs of care rank among the lowest, and they reduce the need for more expensive hospital-based and specialty care, saving  billions of dollars for taxpayers.  Currently, 1,200 health centers deliver care through over 8,000 service delivery sites in every state and territory.  (resource-www.healthcenterweek.com)
