Festival on the Bay is truly an event for people of all ages with activities taking place all along the bay front - from the Arboretum and the Little Traverse Wheelway to Festival Place and the beautiful Bear River.
"Our 10th year will be the biggest and best festival our community has ever seen," said Kathy Bardins, Festival Coordinator. "The festival committee is working hard to bring new events and a wide variety of music, plus so many great local businesses and non profit organizations continue to be involved."
This year's music entertainment starts on Friday at 5:00 with Ribo & the Flavanauts, The Jelly Roll Blues Band, Petoskey Steel Drum Band, and Ten to Midnight. Friday night's headline act is Brent James and The ContraBand which begins at 10:30 p.m. Music will continue on Saturday at noon with Dj Steve Dub, Hipps-n-Ricco, Boyne River Remedy, Born Suspect, and Larry McCray. The headline act on Saturday is Donald Kinsey Band, former guitarist for Bob Marley and Peter Tosh, and will begin at 10:00 p.m. Odawa Casino is a proud sponsor of the Entertainment Tent.
Festival on the Bay involves the entire community and many local organizations and businesses are organizing new events, including Parasailing on Little Traverse Bay and the SAFE Teen Dance on Saturday night.
One of the most popular areas at festival is the Children's Area, which is sponsored by Meijer. A new feature for kids this year is a petting zoo on Saturday, plus there will be games and activities, entertainment on the Children's Stage, and a bounce house.
Festival favorites include the Corporate Challenge, Celebration of the Sunset, Jiimaan canoe rides, Chalk and Chocolate Festival, Youth Fishing Derby, Bear River duck race, sporting events, arts and crafts fair, and tasty food concessions.
The Keweenaw Star, part of Keweenaw Excursions of Charlevoix, will be offering boat cruises on Saturday, August 18 at 8:00 p.m. These rides are available for $15 for adults, $7 for children 12 and under and children under 5 free. Cruises will be one hour long and tickets are available at the Petoskey Regional Chamber at 231-347-4150.
Festival on the Bay buttons are now on sale at the Petoskey Regional Chamber of Commerce office for $5 or can be purchased at the Information Booth during festival. Buttons provide weekend-long admission to the Entertainment Tent and to the Children’s Area so please show your support of the festival by purchasing a keepsake button. Without a button, there will be an admission fee of $2.00 per day to the Children's Area or $5.00 per day to the Entertainment Tent during festival.
The festival committee would once again like to thank McLaren-Northern Michigan, Volunteer Sponsor, and TV 29/8, TV Media Sponsor.
