Food industry growth creates thousands of food jobs

Aug. 7, 2012 - PRLog -- The recruiter was reacting to the Industrial Trends Survey released by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) which revealed that the food and drink industry was one of the biggest growth areas for UK manufacturing. Focus Management Consultants says more people are needed in order to fill the thousands of vacancies that exist within the sector.

"This latest indication of the sector's growth may relate to manufacturing, but there has been considerable growth across the whole industry," Stephen Jones, Director of Focus Management Consultants. "This has led to the creation of thousands of new positions throughout the country and will continue to do so as the industry grows further."

In addition to those in manufacturing, the range of food jobs available includes roles in technical, product development, engineering, health and safety and supply chain; as well as more traditional positions in sales, marketing, human resources, purchasing, planning and finance."

The food industry currently employs 500,000 people in the UK and accounts for 13% of the UK manufacturing workforce. By 2017, it is anticipated that the industry will need 137,000 new recruits, while right now there are as many as 16,000 vacancies.

"While some sectors have been hit hard by the recession, food and drink has bucked the trend and continues to grow," the spokesperson confirmed. "As a result, an increasing number of food jobs are being created and there has never been a better time to enter the sector.
