The building where they work is close to 20 years old and has suffered from roof leaks over the years. Funding for a new roof was recently approved, but heavy rains and structural issues have delayed the project from being completed.
Cases of mold and other indoor pollutants causing IAQ concerns in office environments are not new. As the public increasingly recognizes the importance of healthy, comfortable, and productive indoor environments, their awareness and demand for good indoor air quality has grown and become more vocal.
Helping Florida’s workers identify problems with the air they breathe is Orlando-based Advanced Building Assessment. Eric Osking, M.S., CIEC, President of Advanced Building Assessment, has been all over the state providing information and resolving IAQ concerns for people. “Most people spend 40 hours or more at the office each week and if there are IAQ concerns they can lead to not only health issues, but lower productivity, increased absenteeism, higher turnover and even lawsuits,” stated Mr. Osking. “Many office buildings have significant indoor air pollution sources. These sources include furnishings, occupant activities, housekeeping practices, pesticide applications, and microbial contamination to name just a few. It takes an experienced IAQ professional to identify the source, or often sources, of a problem.”
Advanced Building Assessment has sponsored an educational video about IAQ issues in office environments that can be seen at:
