Follow on Google News | A New Forest boutique B&B fit for Wiggo!Cottage Lodge in the New Forest has arguably won more awards than any other B&B in the UK. The awards have all been for its high level of green credentials, thanks to 'eco chic' owner Christina Simons. It's won more awards than Wiggo!
By: Mick Thompson, Travel Dog PR Here is the Olympic-size list of awards that have been bestowed upon Cottage Lodge and its owner, ‘eco-chic’ • Brilliance in Business – Most Sustainable Business 2012 Winner • Caterer & Hotelkeeper – Sustainability Award 2012 – runner up • Enjoy England Gold Winner Award for Excellence 2008 • Winner of South East Tourism’s Excellence Awards 2008 • New Forest Brilliance in Business Awards 2008 (finalist) • Awarded 5-star rating from the AA • Best B&B in the New Forest National Park 2007 (Guardian Newspaper) • Gold Green Tourism Business Scheme 2007 • Winner Sustainable Business of the Year 2007 (Tourism South East) • Highly Commended Green Hotel of the Year 2007 (Caterer & Hotelkeeper) • Brilliance in Business Award 2007 (finalist) The Awards recognise the astonishing degree to which Christina has gone to, in reducing the carbon footprint of her business, namely: • Zonal heating (only rooms that guests are staying in are heated) • Black poplar tables in the dining room • Crockery from Denby – made from clay dug out of their own back garden • Bowls for fruit made from recycled glass • Table mats made from recycled coke cans • Chairs are either recycled wood or bamboo • Eco friendly paint • Breakfast made with New forest Marque or from as close as possible to the New Forest • Coffee and tea processed using the sun and electricity from solar panels • Hampshire peppermint tea • Bar supplied from the local area • Guests encouraged to leave the car behind with free collection from the station • Bamboo blankets on the beds (lower carbon footprint than wool or synthetic) • Solar panels, photovoltaic cells, wood burning stove, In addition there are two eco ‘showcase rooms’ one of which even has a bicycle to power the television, and another in which the bed and all the bedroom furniture, was made by hand from a fallen New Forest Ash tree.
