Today’s SEIU endorsement follows several endorsements from organized labor including the AFL-CIO, UNITE HERE, the region’s first responders – police and firefighters – and members of the United Transportation Union.
“Throughout my career, I have always been a strong advocate for working families,” said Kristin Jacobs, candidate for Congress. “When I’m elected to Congress, I will continue to stand up for them and bring people together tocreate good-paying jobs, improve the lives of workers and their families and work toward a more just and humane society. I’m humbled to have the support of the SEIU and will fight to protect their organization.”
Florida’s 22nd Congressional District spans Broward and Palm Beach Counties. Jacobs is a four-term Broward County Commissioner and currently serves as the Vice Mayor. Jacobs was also recognized by the President for her work in the areas of sustainability, clean water and clean energy as an appointee and Chair of the White House National Ocean Council’s Governance Coordinating Committee.
Throughout her career, Jacobs has worked to promote clean water, sustainable energy, expanding a smart and modern transportation system, strengthening the public education system, protecting women and children from domestic violence and was the driving force to pass Broward's Human Rights Act to prevent discrimination. Jacobs was the author of Broward's Living Wage Ordinance that guarantees workers rights to earn a decent wage.
