Pontiac Fever & Legionella Discussed in New Online Video

PRLog (Press Release) - Aug. 5, 2012 - Today, the IAQ Video Network and Cochrane & Associates announced the release of another online video to help educate the public about issues that may impact their health.  The latest educational video discusses Pontiac Fever and Legionella bacteria.

Pontiac Fever is an infection caused by a type of bacteria known as Legionella.  The same type of bacteria causes Legionnaires’ disease, a potentially deadly infection.  Pontiac Fever and Legionnaires' disease may also be called legionellosis either separately or together.

“People get legionellosis when they breathe in a mist or vapor that has been contaminated with the bacteria,” reported Paul Cochrane, President of Cochrane and Associates, the company behind the IAQ Video Network and the new public outreach video.  “Fortunately, the bacteria are not spread from person to person.  Pontiac Fever is a much milder infection, compared to Legionnaires’ disease. The incubation period after exposure is believed to be approximately 24 to 48 hours.  Symptoms of Pontiac Fever usually last for 2 to 5 days and may include fever, headaches, and muscle ache.  Fortunately, there is no pneumonia as is the case with Legionnaires’ disease. We hope this video helps to educate people about Legionella and how they can help protect their health.”
