Over the summer children all over the world are glued to 24 hour cartoon channel, and endless supplies of cheap processed food and video game.
So there is no wonder that the current generation of children and getting more overweight, if we do not do something now the future is very easy to predict, it will be like a science fiction movies with us all “plugged in to the net” and living virtual world.
Getting children the right food is needed at home and can be easily done, getting children outside in the fresh air to exercise is a who different matter. Let’s face the facts most children are not sporty and playing team games can be embarrassing if you are not very good.
So we need to find ways to get them out in a way where technically they do not realize they are exercising.
My two girls are 7 and 10 and we have been quite lucky because they enjoy sports, but my fiends children and not the same, to them sports means Fifa 12 on the play station so the only part of their bodies getting used is their thumbs.
But recently we gave them a “toy” called a u-kick. This is basically a game to get good hand to eye co-ordination, is quite simple and fun, they loved it. We took it to a local school and here was the response.
“U Kick has spread throughout my child’s school! They love the coloured feathers and can’t put the UKick’s down! If it spreads as quickly as it did in school it’s destined to become a UK craze”. – Lillias Griffiths
This may not be the solution to getting kids out and exercising, but a combination of the Olympics on TV and health diet and simple games they can play is a good starting point.
