Secrets of a Kept Woman to Grace the Stage at The 14th Street Playhouse in Atlanta

Aug. 4, 2012 - PRLog -- OPELIKA, AL – August 4, 2012 – Sharing with readers her intimate journey of creative expression, Shani Greene-Dowdell, founder of Nayberry Publications, announces today that she be going back to the theater with an adaption of her sophomore novel, Secrets of a Kept Woman. A one-day only performance will be held at 14th Street Playhouse, 173 14th Street NE, Atlanta, Georgia October 6, 2012 at 6 p.m. as a part of the Atlanta Black Theater Festival.

While Secrets of a Kept Woman is unsettling at times, comedic  at others, and very dramatically performed, it shows in a lighthearted way that life is full of teachable moments, nourishment for the soul, and most importantly, opportunities to heal.

As theatergoers become intimately acquainted with the characters, Shayla, Gladys, and Rhonda, they will uncover how past events shape present circumstances and how patience and trust will lead their hearts into the next phase of life. “It is my hope that the play will help abused women take a hard look at their situations. I want to show the ugly side of things, because life is not a fairytale. Domestic violence statistics show that around the world, at least one woman in every three has been beaten, or otherwise abused in her lifetime."

This theatrical performance is a powerfully honest, compelling look at the thoughts, emotions, decisions, and challenges facing women in friendships and relationships today. "Secrets of a Kept Woman explores what happens when the lines between friendship and betrayal are crossed, and what consequences befall the parties involved,” wrote Naiomi Pitre, CEO of Imoian Press.
