Could Launching A Startup Be As Easy As Publishing A Blog?

Marc Lissade, founder of Modulemill.com, believes that with the impending publication of the SEC guidelines to support the implementation of the JOBS Act, the next hurdle for entrepreneurs will not be securing seed capital but execution.

Aug. 6, 2012 - PRLog -- Crowdfunding has literally transformed the world of creative and business project fund raising and with the upcoming implementation of the JOBS (Jumpstart Our Business Startups) act, the world of startup early funding will be completely unrecognizable in less than a year from now. Simply put, any properly vetted entrepreneur will be able to raise up to 1 million dollars in seed capital per year to fund their startups. Theoretically all it will take will be a good idea and good execution skills to launch a successful venture, or will it?

What happens if you have a great idea but have no website nor web development skills and no idea how to launch and run a successful startup? What if you have all or many of these skills but no support network?

Mr. Lissade had a similar problem in early 2011 when he launched RCKSTRZ.com, a combination of Groupon.com and Opentable.com for the nightlife industry.  When the idea struck him, Mr. Lissade, having degrees in computer information system and business, decided to develop the website himself and finance it with personal funds. It wasn't long until he realized that building the website was only the tip of the iceberg and marketing his concept to the general public as well as securing contracts from Nightclub operators would be beyond the reach of just his individual resources and efforts.

His dreams of nightclub domination were dashed, a few months later, as he watched another entrepreneur pitch a similar concept on ABC's popular Shark Tank. While his business model certainly received validation from the Sharks uncharacteristically bidding each other up for the opportunity to grab a share of EZVIP.com, Mr. Lissade was suddenly at an impasse with only a website to show for his efforts.

Very soon seed funding will hopefully become an obsolete hurdle to startup success but extrapolating from his experiences as a single founder, Mr. Lissade readily acknowledges that had he been successful at raising capital, his startup would have still been handicapped by the lack of a startup support network, a core group of initial founders, as described in the inspired post by Brian Balfour. He says he had committed one of the cardinal sins that Eric Ries warns about in The Lean Startup by being so product oriented while losing track of building his company's capacity to execute.

Current web development platforms and hosts such as Volusion.com, Web.com and 1and1.com only offer site building tools and templates but none of the team building tools an entrepreneur would need to execute a concept beyond just building an internet presence. Mr. Lissade then envisioned Modulemill.com, a wordpress multisite, offering the combination of the ease of use of wordpress.com with a built-in social network, classifieds section, groups, forums and many traction building tools.

“There is no integrated startup community on the market offering the tools and features we have combined.” he states.

Modulemill.com is currently featured on indiegogo.com, as Mr. Lissade is crowdfunding the $72,000 he claims he needs to bring the site to the level of mass accessibility to other entrepreneurs. His fund-raising page can be found here: http://www.indiegogo.com/modulemill?c=home&a=262285.
He also lists at the bottom of the indiegogo campaign page other ways the project can be supported besides financial contributions. They have been reproduced here:
