Evanston Mini Maker Faire: Power Racing Series

Power Racing Series is part of the Evanston Mini Maker Faire this weekend, August 4th and 5th. The Faire showcases local inventors & entrepreneurs and is a demonstration of applied science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills.

Aug. 3, 2012 - PRLog -- Evanston, Illinois, August 2, 2012 – Ambassador Carol Moseley Braun will serve as Race Marshal for the championship race of the Power Racing Series at the Evanston Mini Maker Faire on Sunday, August 5th at 1:00 p.m., where 30 different children’s electric riding cars, heavily modified for durability and speed, will compete in endurance and time trials.  

The Power Racing Series is part of the Evanston Mini Maker Faire to be held this Saturday and Sunday, August 4th and 5th.  The Faire, presented by Evanston Technology Innovation Center and PS:One will showcase of local inventors and entrepreneurs and a demonstration of applied science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills for young innovators. The event will run from 6pm to 10pm on Saturday the 4th and from 10am to 6pm on Sunday the 5th, and will be located adjacent to the downtown Hilton in Evanston, IL at the intersection of Oak St. and University St.

Evanston Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl said, “The City of Evanston is proud to be showcasing the Evanston Mini Maker Faire in partnership with the Technology Innovation Center – our flagship incubator currently housing more than 40 start up companies in downtown Evanston.  The Maker Faire is a new event in Evanston and attracting an audience from throughout Chicagoland and shows our commitment to new ideas and our innovative mindset. The Maker Faire puts a new spin on Science, Technology, and Engineering and helps demonstrate to our children that there are both practical and fun applications of math and science.”

The Faire will include interactive presentations, exhibitions, and hands-on demonstrations by organizations including the Museum of Science and Industry and the Chicago Children’s Museum, live performances and workshops by experimental electronic music group Roth Mobot, beer brewing lessons by the Evanston Homebrew Club, and classes in soldering, laser cutting, and wood sculpture. In addition, Ambassador Carol Moseley Braun will serve as Race Marshal for the championship race of the Power Racing Series, where 30 different children’s electric riding cars, heavily modified for durability and speed, will compete in endurance and time trials.  

Over 250 presenters and vendors from regional technology and creative businesses and organizations are set to exhibit at the Faire.
