Certified Executive Chef Purchases Former Sweet Shoppe in Palm Coast
Joseph Ronan, C.E.C., is excited to announce his purchase of The Sweet Shoppe ice cream parlor, across from Bing’s Landing. He has renamed the restaurant and ice cream parlor Chef’s Shanty & Ice Creamery.
Ronan has brought his extensive culinary experience back to Flagler County. After attending the Culinary Institute of America, Boston University and the French Culinary Institute in New York, he owned and operated Joe’s Chef’s Catering Co. from 2000-2005 in Palm Coast. Prior to returning to Palm Coast, Ronan worked in Connecticut and California perfecting his craft. He eventually made his way back to Florida, working in several cities in the state until selecting Palm Coast to open Chef’s Shanty & Ice Creamery.
Ronan – a food stylist - was also a team manager of Team USA Northeast Culinary Team. During that time, he was one of only five chefs named to the All-Star Team of the World Association of Cooks Society. He was also a finalist in Escoffier Grande Prix du Culinaire, one of the industry's most respected culinary competitions.
“We are excited to bring some unique dishes to Palm Coast,” Ronan stated. “In addition to salads such as a Key Lime Caesar salad with homemade key lime dressing, we will soon be offering a selection of hamburgers such as the Hawaiian Burger with pepper jack cheese and pineapple salsa. We also have an incredible Malacompra Mahi taco with fresh Mahi Mahi, as well as pizza, hot dogs, and of course our famous soft serve ice cream,” he adds.
Ronan’s next venture includes the purchase of the former restaurant building just 600 yards north of Chef’s Shanty. They’ve named their soon-to-be restaurant Bella Gusto. It’s scheduled to open mid-August.
Offering 18 flavors of ice cream, Chef’s Shanty Ice Creamery has also teamed up with Babycakes & Sugarpies – a gourmet dessert maker that crafts specialty cakes, tiny little pies and over the top frosted babycakes. Their ‘Shanty Cake Sunday’s’ are quickly catching on and are comprised of pairing unique gourmet cupcakes and with a delicious ice cream flavor.
