Washington Regional and Fayetteville City Hospital - The closing of a nursing home

PRLog (Press Release) - Aug. 3, 2012 - Outside of my main writing, this is an editorial piece on a subject that is close to my heart. Fayetteville City Hospital is a nursing home that is out of the ordinary, it is a place of love and hope. While this piece carries some of the injustice of how it was closed, it is more about the ideal of what a good nursing home is. Respect, dignity, dedication, love and medical care all coexist in this facility that is being closed by it's owner company, Washington Regional. Fayetteville City Hospital is a nursing home that has been home to its residents for over thirty years. Just after the buildings one hundredth anniversary, Washington Regional announced its permanent closure and the dispersal of its residents to other facilities. The tearful separation of this true family of residents and staff has affected the community and reaches as far as California and Georgia. Many of the staff are heartbroken and many of the residents are frightened and confused. This situation shows a little corner of how our medical system is broken and the lives of the elderly and disabled are tossed and sundered by money hungry medical giants in the interest of a dollar or two.
