GLC’s Medisphere Network will now provide 79 sites within 25 different health care provider systems in Michigan with the ability to interconnect as well as have broadband access to the public Internet and the advanced Internet2 Network via the Merit Network. This network access will greatly enhance GLC’s capability to more quickly transport diagnostic information and data that will improve patient care. Medisphere’s network grants access to research facilities and cloud computing services that will broaden the capabilities of health care providers. Utilizing GLC’s 4000 miles of fiber optic network, Internet2 services will reach much deeper into underserved areas of Michigan to provide greater resources to local and regional public and private Health Care Providers.

Today, the Internet2 Network connects United States health care providers to more than 350 member organizations made up of leading universities, corporations, government agencies, and not-for-profit networking organizations. The network provides an unprecedented 8.8 Terabits of optical networking capacity and reaches more than 66,000 community anchor institutions, involving many underserved areas of the country.
