First Class Concepts Ask: Will 90% of Britain Really Have Superfast Broadband by 2015?

Britain’s culture minister Ed Vaizey has said that by 2015 90% of the country will have superfast broadband. Does First Class Concepts agree?

Aug. 2, 2012 - PRLog -- First Class Concepts has been following the progress towards superfast broadband in Britain with great interest. The direct marketing company works closely with a number of clients in the telecommunications industry and has a pretty good idea about how the scheme is going. They believe that Ed Vaizey’s prediction won’t be far off.

Mr. Vaizey said that the government and private investors are working hard to ensure that the infrastructure is in place for “the vast majority of the country” by 2015. Those who want exceptional speeds will be able to connect to a network and then choose to upgrade.  A spokesperson for First Class Concepts said, “We think that this is a realistic expectation and very achievable. The plan has been well thought out, area by area and there has been a good deal of funding both from the government and externally for the project.”

What sort of speeds can people expect? First Class Concepts believe that sometimes people think that superfast means that they’re going to get 1000s of Mbps. The reality is that it is much less but far better than what many people are able to get at the moment. The speeds that the government are hoping to achieve are 35MBps but they are confident that 100% of the country will have access to 2Mbps.” To watch iPlayer on the computer you would need speeds of 1-1.5Mbps.

Once the optical fibres were in place the potential for higher speeds would be led by demand. Mr. Vaizey said “There’s absolutely no point in having superfast broadband coming past your door if you can’t afford it. So we also want competition on price and we do have very low prices on broadband.” First Class Concepts seems confident that broadband will continue to be affordable in the UK compared to our European neighbours. The spokesperson for the company continued, “Traditionally we’ve  had incredibly competitive rates for broadband in the UK and we think that this will continue to be the case even with the higher speeds. Britain is going to get the best of both worlds.”
