Paharpur Business Centre celebrates eco-friendly ‘Raksha Bandhan’ with ‘Brother Plants’!

Aug. 2, 2012 - PRLog -- August 2, New Delhi : Paharpur Business Centre & Software Technology Incubator Park, (PBCTM-STIP), enthusiastically celebrated the pious festival of Raksha Bandhan by making Eco-Friendly Rakhees and subsequently tying them to plants, so as to send a message, that we should place our faith in ‘Trees’ as they eventually protect us from global warming and rising pollution.
PBCTM-STIP, being a USGBC LEED Platinum certified retrofit, has always believed in the principles of 4 R’s which is ‘Refuse’, ‘Reduce’, ‘Recycle’ and ‘Reuse’. Taking sustainable initiatives and motivating people about Environment conservation, has been a pertinent factor in the books of the 50,000 square feet business centre.
Thus, on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, an eco-friendly-rakhi- competition was held amongst employees.
“We encouraged our staff to make eco-friendly Rakhees by following the principle of 4R's, which is, Refuse, Reduce, Recycle & Reuse. Our employees made Rakhees from the material that usually goes into dump after one time use. For instance, recycled paper, colourful invitation cards, ribbons from bouquets or packed gifts, strings from paper bags, dry flowers, piece of wood, leaves, buttons etc. This way, we have carefully minimised waste by 'Refusing' to send these waste items across to land -fill sites and 'Reducing' carbon footprint by 'Reusing' them by making Rakhee out if it,” said Mr Kamal Meattle, CEO of Paharpur Business Centre  & Software Technology Incubator Park.
Number of employees participated in the Rakhee competition and made bunch of colourful Rakhees.  “This is a wonderful idea to promote the use of home-made eco-friendly Rakhees instead of buying new ones from market. Moreover, every manufactured new product has some carbon foot print. Therefore, there is a need to conserve our environment and what better than reusing waste materials as far as possible,” said an employee of PBC.
Prizes were given away to the best three eco-friendly Rakhees. Post the competition some of the employees tied Rakhees around the plants, vowing to plant saplings on the occasion of Rakhee each year at the park, nearest to their homes.
