The NPSL National Championships are a 'Final Four' style, 3 day event which was held this past weekend (July 27 – 29). Winners of all four Conferences (of the 49 teams nationwide) earned their way to San Diego through playoffs. FC Sonic from Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania won the Championship with a thrilling 1-0 victory in the final versus Chattanooga FC from Tennessee.
Flash CEO, Clent Alexander, congratulated the Championship winning FC Sonic but held special praise for the atmosphere generated from all the teams and their travelling fans.
“The weekend was a terrific showcase of national soccer talent and it was a great honor for the San Diego Flash Soccer Club to be appointed the host team for the National Championships. There is no doubt San Diego is a soccer city and this was another national showpiece that only adds to that reputation.”
This year’s NPSL National Championships was also the first finals to truly embrace Social Media. Fans were able to keep up with all the live action through a new Tweetcaster program and watching the games live via Ustream.
“When we decided to bid for the hosting rights for this event we wanted to put on a well-organized weekend that pushed the boundaries of technology. The way we presented the matches on the internet had people talking about all the innovative ways we are using this platform to help grow the game of soccer across the U.S.
“Together with our social media outreach and the quality of play on the field, I think we have achieved those goals and we look forward to building on these successes and come back bigger and better when we host again in 2013.” Mr. Alexander said.
Now that the on-field soccer action has concluded for the season, attention now shifts to the off-field development of the sport in San Diego.
