Bush and Beyond, specialists in East African safaris, recently announced the grand re-opening of Lewa House, a luxury lodge situated on the foothills of Mount Kenya on a 65,000 acre private conservancy. After an extensive six month reconstruction project, Lewa House reopened with new renovations and the construction of four new cottages.
Located at the very heart of the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, Lewa House is situated at the top of a hill that has sweeping views of Mount Kenya to the south and the rugged Mathews Range and the sacred Ol Olokwe Mountain to the north. Lewa House is comprised of cottage style rooms that are spread out along the hillside, all overlooking the expansive landscape to the north.
Originally a private home, Lewa House now includes three of the original thatched family cottages along with four recently added single room cottages. The new cottages have been constructed with sustainable materials and ecological principles in mind while maintaining their elegance and “luxury in the bush” feel.
The heart of Lewa House is a large elegant building with an open fireplace, a cozy bar where guests can visit and enjoy a drink before dinner, and a large family dining table where the evening meals are served. Guests can also enjoy breathtaking scenery while relaxing on the large shaded verandah and comfortable seating area. The lodge also includes beautiful shaded gardens and a swimming pool that overlooks a watering hole that provides some of the best game viewing in the conservancy.
Guests are graciously hosted by the new owners Sophie Macfarlane, the granddaughter of Delia and Douglas Craig who originally founded the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, and her husband Calum. They treat visitors to warm hospitality while offering them a personal perspective on the beauty, wildlife, and culture of the area.
In addition to cozy and inviting accommodation, visitors can enjoy activities like game drives, bush walks, horseback riding, camel treks, scenic bi-plane trips, conservancy activities, cultural visits, gourmet dining, and much more.
