By: Kim Bagnell Thaler The report from Smith Travel Research shows that hotel occupancy, rates and revenue in Monroe, Miami-Dade and Broward counties increased compared to May of 2011. Monroe (the Florida Keys) saw a 4.4 percent jump in occupancy to 78.6 percent, with room rates increasing almost 5 percent to $200.54. Revenue per available room jumped 9.4 percent to $157.62. August 2nd, 2012, Per Islamorada’s Top producing Realtor Kim Bagnell Thaler, This is great news for the Upper Keys and Islamorada area. This simply means more people are coming here and more money is being spent which helps our local economy. When asked how this has affected the local Real Estate market, Kim remarked, “When more money flows into our economy, more jobs are created which means more people will be looking for housing. In addition more people visiting means more people will fall in love with the Keys and want to own a piece of our paradise. Because of all this, our lower priced properties as well as the luxury homes are selling much faster then a year ago and are definitely staying on the market less. The Bottom line is that due to more people visiting the Keys plus the low mortgage rates and pricing there’s never been a better time to buy Real Estate in the Keys.
