Follow on Google News | The “Foster” Mum Can Nurture And Enrich Tired Flower PotsColorful flowers ease Dog Day blues when taking a planting tip or two from local garden centers. Heaven Hill Farm's nursery manager offers advice on how to bring tired planters back to life with unexpected & unorthodox flower & plant selections.
By: Heaven Hill Farm The colors of spring have faded, but autumns showy mums, sunflowers, ornamental cabbages and kales just aren’t ready to adorn your gardens. Take direction from Heaven Hill Farm’s Nursery Manager, Jim Paulison, and enrich your containers with unexpected color and contour. The old adage, ‘necessity is the mother of invention’ is a daily challenge at Heaven Hill. Given the opportunity to feature planted containers at the Sussex County Chamber tent at the New Jersey State Fair this week, Paulison dug deep in his repertoire of container planting tricks. “Knowing that this time of season can leave annuals dry and faded, I take an unorthodox approach to planting showpiece containers,” Hand selecting unsuspected arrangements of plants and flowers allows Paulison to create customized containers of fillers, thrillers and spillers that will adorn the Sussex Chamber tent and show guests and gardeners that utilizing “foster” flowers can allow for vibrant, textured containers that will welcome the fall season with grace and surprise. Established in 1982, Heaven Hill Farm is a 150 acre working farm and full service garden center offering annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees, gardening supplies, patio furniture, grills, giftware, seasonal produce, ice cream, baked goods and specialty foods in more than 16,000 sq. ft. of retail space.
