By: Nallacomm **Photos Available Upon Request** For Immediate Release GRENADA HIGHLIGHTS ATHLETES ATTENDING 2012 LONDON OLYMPICS St. George’s, Grenada, July 27, 2012 – With the commencement of the 2012 Summer Olympics, all of Grenada will be casting a spotlight on their 10 star athletes participating in this year’s games. Of particular note are two of the island’s star track and field competitors Kirani James and Rondell Bartholomew, who by all estimations are true contenders for bringing home Olympic medals. Both athletes are sprinters, James specializing in the 200-400 meters and Bartholomew in the 400 meters. Both have impressive world class run times and several medals to back up their feats to date. Kirani James James is the reigning 400 meters world champion with a time of 44.6 beating USA’s La Shawn Merritt (44.63). Prodigious from a young age, he ran the fastest 400 m times ever by a 14-year old. He won a series of gold medals at the CARIFTA Games and the Commonwealth Youth Games and rose on the international stage with 400 m silver medals at the 2007 World Youth and 2008 World Junior Championships. James became the first athlete to run a 200/400 double at the 2009 World Youth Championships and was the 2010 World Junior Champion. Rondell Bartholomew Bartholomew has represented Grenada at two World Championships in Athletics and was a 400 m world finalist in 2011. His personal best for the event is 44.65 seconds. He has won medals at junior level at the CARIFTA Games and Pan American Junior Championships. He helped set a Grenadian record of 3:04.69 minutes for the 4×400 meters relay in 2011.
