Vintage Seekers presents a trio of stunning dresses from My Week With Marilyn and An Education

July 31, 2012 - PRLog -- Two of the vintage dresses from the collection were designed by Ceil Chapman, a designer renowned for her expertise in construction. The first is a black 1950s cocktail dress which was worn by Michelle Williams when she played Marilyn Monroe in the critically acclaimed My Week With Marilyn. Made with geometrically shaped black sequins, the dress resembles several Monroe wore herself and perfectly defines the glamour of the era. Rosamund Pike wore the gold brocade dress in An Education - this is a beautiful example of Ceil Chapman’s pleating and draping skills. Combined with a square-topped bodice and tightly fitted waist which create a flattering bust line, this vintage dress carves a classic 1950s silhouette. The dress appears in the film when Rosamund Pike’s character, Helen attends a double date at a greyhound track along with the main character, played by Carey Mulligan.

In a scene that became a casualty of the cutting room floor, Carey Mulligan wore this 1960s pink polka-dot dress in the role of Jenny Mellor – for which she was nominated for an Academy Award. The glazed cotton two-piece outfit consists of a white sleeveless top with pink polka-dots and a full skirt featuring a reverse of the print. The top features a Peter Pan collar secured with pearl buttons and the set is broken up with an integral matching belt. This design characterises the transitional vintage styles of the early 1960s as they transitioned toward the more daring fashions of the ‘Swinging Sixties’.
