La Trobe students visit India to study herbal medicine

New Delhi, 31st July 2012.Three La Trobe University Bachelor of Pharmacy students from Bendigo in Victoria, Australia will arrive in India for a two-week study tour when they will immerse themselves in Indian culture.

July 31, 2012 - PRLog -- New Delhi, 31st July 2012.Three La Trobe University Bachelor of Pharmacy students from Bendigo in Victoria, Australia will arrive in India for a two-week study tour when they will immerse themselves in Indian culture.

The students will visit JSS University, Mysore where they will study tropical and herbal medicine, which will help them in exploring various dimensions of Indian medicinal herbs. During their stay in India, the students will interact with Indian students to gain an understanding of age old Indian herbal medicinal values.

Speaking on the students visit to JSS University, Mysore, Professor John Rosenberg, Senior Deputy Vice Chancellor and Vice President of La Trobe University said ‘La Trobe University is committed to producing world ready students and the cultural experience offered through the student exchange program is an important step towards that aim.’
Professor Rosenberg said the students’ visit to India will expand their horizons. ‘This opportunity to study under the senior academics at JSS University will enhance their learning and knowledge about the Indian pharmacy industry. The visit will also expose our students to the rich and diverse history and exciting culture of India.’

Pharmacy students Ms Alysha Bosch, Mr Ekram Boktor and Ms Leng Tietwere delighted to have been selected for the study trip to India.

Head of La Trobe University’s School of Pharmacy, Dr Michael Angove said the students’ visit to India will make a valuable contribution to their education. ‘The idea is that the students will have placements in some of the Indian hospitals so that they get an idea of the health care system in India and learn about India’s age old values and beliefs in herbal medicine, something that they would not experience in Australia. We are hoping that some of the students form JSS University will visit Bendigo next year.’

Professor Suresh Bhojraj, Vice-Chancellor, JSS University, Mysore said of the visit of Australian Students ‘Exchange programs always bring with them huge possibilities of learning, both for the host country’s students and for the visiting students. Through this cross cultural exchange La Trobe has taken a positive step towards an exchange of educational values and better cultural understanding between our two countries and we hope this will continue for many years.’
