Pete Bassett announced as latest Ambassador for Arts for India

PRLog (Press Release) - Jul. 30, 2012 - Pete, who has worked with the likes of Cher, Meatloaf, The Bee Gees, Russell Watson and Chris Rea amongst others, has been chosen to sit on the Fund-raising and Awards Committee for Arts for India ahead of its annual fund-raising event which this year is being held at the Saatchi Gallery, London on November 15th 2012.

Pete’s role will be to help put forward and approach nominees and the ultimate winner for the prestigious Dayawati Modi and Modi Creative India awards which are to be given on November 15th and which celebrate the best of Indian, UK and international contributions to arts, education and culture. Winners of the awards are invited to visit and engage with students at the International Institute of Fine Arts (IIFA), Modinagar, Delhi.

IIFA is unique as a private sector solution to chronic public underfunding of the arts in India and offers a quality education in the arts in fine art, fashion, textiles, design, film animation and TV studies. IIFA operates an adopt-an-artist programme which seeks to support 100 students a year through their studies where financial constraints would normally prohibit many Indian potential students from following their dreams.

‘This is a great honour’ explains Pete. ‘With former winners of these prestigious awards including the Dalai Lama, Mother Teresa, Goldie Hawn and Matthew Williamson, the recipients will be following in the footsteps of international icons. Our aim is to grow the annual event to even greater heights through enhancing the awards ceremony to focus on relevant, appropriate and worthy nominees from the world of art, music, culture
and fashion.’

The awards will be held at the world-leading Saatchi Gallery, Duke of York's HQ, King's Road, London, SW3 4RY on November 15th at the Arts for India UK annual reception and fund-raiser.

This year the event will be a Diwali celebration dinner. Entertainment on the evening will include X-Factor’s Austin Drage and genre leading Shama and her Bollywood band. The evening will also see an auction of works of art by leading international contemporary artists.
