My Experience with Calgary Renovations – The Band Room

Our writer, a former musician turned family man, shares his experience with Everlast Renovations, as he aims to get his sons into music by means of a basement music room.

July 30, 2012 - PRLog -- Calgary, AB – It’s been a while since my last stint as a professional musician.  The pay wasn’t good, if my band got paid at all.  At times, we got asked to play songs we didn’t even like, much less rehearse.  Eventually, dingy hotel rooms, terrible hotel and diner food and a lack of respect from promoters finally convinced me to hang up my drumsticks and look for what my parents disdainfully called “a real job.”  But that didn’t kill my love for music, or my desire to pass that love on to my kids.  That’s why I decided to see what a company called Everlast Renovations could do in terms of fixing up my basement and turning it into a music room, or band room.

It was last Friday when I got to meet the contractors who would be working on my basement.  Mike, who was the lead contractor, was also the most experienced when it came to Calgary basement development.  A gruff-looking, yet polite man, Mike oversaw the process of turning an otherwise vacant cellar into a spanking new band room that my children can rehearse in.  They had just started getting interested in playing instruments, and even expressed a desire to be in a band like their old man.  That’s why I thought of the band room – not really a popular choice for the missus, but one she decided she could live with.

Naturally, before any Calgary basement development project can commence, the basement has to be painted.  It took them about two to three days to get everything done, and I was glad they chose a nice finish that didn’t look too drab or conservative.  The Calgary renovations team then moved a large couch from the living room to the basement.  Not bad, I thought – placed in the left corner, it could serve as a nice place to take a breather in between songs, or a place where the kids’ friends could lounge in while watching the band rehearse.  Mike suggested that they move our mini-refrigerator to the basement, for easy access to refreshments, while I brought up the idea of soundproofing the walls, which was no problem for the team.  It was a collaborative effort between me and the renovations team, something I truly appreciated.  We ended up moving a few other items, such as a side table and an area rug, and Everlast Renovations made sure everything looked ergonomically correct.  With a day to spare before the five-day time frame they promised, the band room was complete.

Once the Calgary renovation team was done with the band room project, the only thing missing was the instruments.  Fortunately, I hadn’t discarded or sold my old drum kit when I retired from music, so all I had to do was set it up again.  My oldest son had just bought a guitar and amplifier, and he told me a couple classmates had their own gear as well.  Next Saturday, the boys and their school friends will be over at the basement, giving it a good baptism of fire.  Thanks to Everlast Renovations, I’ve given my sons a good head start in the music scene – a band studio they can call their own, right in our very own basement.
