By: Margaret Lamb Georgetown, S.C. -- Every drop matters. And in no situation is that more apropos than for blood donations. Every minute of every day, someone needs blood, and that need increases during summer. Help meet the heightened demand for blood Friday, Aug. 3, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital. Members of the public can donate blood from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. in the private dining room on the first floor of GMH. Donors will receive a jar opener, a water bottle and a fountain soda. Appointments can be made by calling 843.527.7173 or going to http://www.redcrossblood.org. Walk-ins are also welcome. In addition to having a valid ID, blood donors must be healthy, be at least 17 years old and weigh a minimum of 110 pounds. Georgetown Hospital System is a private, not-for-profit entity. The system consists of Georgetown Memorial Hospital, Waccamaw Community Hospital and several facilities throughout Horry and Georgetown Counties.
