Kris Kristofferson & Merle Haggard to Share the Stage in Cary, NC on Aug. 7

PineCone-Piedmont Council of Traditional Music, & Outback Concerts partner to present singer-songwriter icons Kris Kristofferson & Merle Haggard at Cary's Koka Booth Amphitheatre on Tuesday, Aug. 7.

July 27, 2012 - PRLog -- PineCone is working with new partners this year to increase our flexibility in bringing more great traditional music artists to the Piedmont all year-round. This summer, PineCone is working with Outback Concerts and Koka Booth Amphitheatre in Cary to bring Grammy award winning artists Kris Kristofferson and Merle Haggard back to the Triangle for a special concert together on Tuesday, Aug. 7. Kristofferson and Haggard are both touring separately this summer, sharing only a select few dates on the same stage. Lawn tickets for this joint show are $39.50 in advance; $45 day of show; reserved seats are $59.50. Tickets are avaible online through http://etix.com or in person at the Koka Booth Amphitheatre Box Office.

Kristofferson has called Haggard his hero, and PineCone is honored to present these two influential troubadors on the same stage. In an interview with the Riverfront Times, Kristofferson said, “I love touring with Merle. He’s my hero. The tour worked out real good — just a couple of his musicians. His son played guitar, and we just swap off songs. I enjoy hearing him more than I enjoy hearing myself! It was probably Merle’s idea. It wouldn’t occur to me to go out and sing with him. We’ve got a lot of mutual respect.”

The North Carolina Piedmont is home to a variety of musicians and music styles, all of which have been influenced in some way by the music of these two prolific songwriters. And North Carolina has not one, but two active singer-songwriter groups in the Piedmont: The North Carolina Songwriters Co-Op and the Central Carolina Songwriters Association, a tribute to the region’s engagement with songwriting. Earlier this summer, PineCone’s Bluegrass Music Camp for Youth included a new songwriting track.

Patrons will not be permitted to bring outside food/beverage items into the park for this concert. Booth Amphitheatre will have a variety of food/beverage items available during the show. Patrons can also pre-order a snack or dinner item to pick up at the venue when arriving for the concert. Visit the Booth Amphitheatre website for complete details.
