Buying Bikes not Bottles

July 25, 2012; Atlanta, GA---These kids today are something else. Seems like just yesterday the streets were filled with kids jumping rope, playing tag, or riding their bikes down the block, this is not the case anymore. Kids today would rather sit in the house all day then enjoy the beauty of the out doors. The sad part is they don’t even know what their missing because for most children they have been couch potatoes their whole life and it shows.

Approximately 17% (or 12.5 million) of children and adolescents aged 2—19 years are obese. The time to act is now!

Monday September 3, 2012 in an effort to promote physical activity, yes exercise, Celebrity Chef Sammy Davis will be hosting a “Ride Out Event”.

 “To say that I came from humble beginnings would be an understatement, I came from horrible beginnings…”Chef Sammy Davis has often said but that is all behind him now. As winner of the latest season of CHOPPED: REDEMPTION on Food Network he has established himself as one of the best in the culinary field but he has not forgotten where he has come from and is always looking for a way to give back. He believes those who are blessed should bless others so that we may all be blessed.

WE WILL NEED YOUR HELP! To make this event successful and beneficial to children who really need these bikes for resources other than exercise, i.e. to get to and from work, we are asking for donations. It is our goal to provide 100 children in need with a bike; 100 kids, 100 bikes.

Donations of BIKES are the main focus, both new and gently used, but monetary donations are gladly welcome. Lastly, to promote safety we will need helmets as well. This is a very obtainable goal and with your help we should have no problem reaching it. Just remember when you rode a bike for the first time and the feeling you had, it was powerful almost magical. We want to share that feeling with 100 kids who have never had that experience and may never have it unless we give it to them in addition to helping in the fight against childhood obesity.  

*All bike and monetary donators in the amount of 50.00 or more receive one ticket to Chef Sammy Davis Sunday Cooking Demonstration at Landon’s Restaurant and Bar.
