Follow on Google News | Civil Air Patrol To Help Honor Deceased Aurora HeroCivil Air Patrol Cadets to provide color guard services for Jonathan Blunk for his homecoing and funeral services.
By: Civil Air Patrol / USAF Auxiliary Blunk will arrive home at 6:35 PM Friday from Denver. He will then proceed to the funeral home. The Civil Air Patrol Color Guard will present honors on arrival and at his funeral service Friday 3 August 2012 at 9:00 AM. The funeral service will be at Mountain View Cemetery with flag folding, gun salute and Taps at the grave side. The Color Guard will be provided by cadets of the Reno Composite Squadron. Cadets range in age from 12 to 21 years old and participate in Civil Air Patrol's Emergency Services mission, Aerospace Education Program, and learn military customs, drill and leadership skills in Cadet Programs. Cadets learn Search and Rescue, radio operations, mission base operations and more in Emergency Services. They receive powered and glider Orientation Flights and can even go on to solo airplanes and gliders as part of Cadet programs. Cadets learn about various aviation careers such as engineering, communications, computers and even health care via the Aerospace program. They learn to look up and beyond the ordinary and reach for a bright future. Reno Composite squadron cadets meet every Monday at the Nevada Wing Headquarters building 601 Rock Ave Reno Nev. The meeting are 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM. Senior members meet the second and fourth Wednesday at 7:00 PM at the same location. CAP, in its Air Force auxiliary role, performs 90 percent of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center and was credited by the AFRCC with saving 54 lives in fiscal year 2011. Its volunteers also perform homeland security, disaster relief and drug interdiction missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies. The members play a leading role in aerospace education and serve as mentors to nearly 27,000 young people currently participating in the CAP cadet program.
