COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA ANNOUNCES Feed Our Neighbors - Food Summit, August 1st

The Community Foundation of East Central Florida and a coalition of community leaders invites any person, group, ministry or agency who is interested in hunger to attend a local "Food Summit" on August 1st.

Nearly 49 million people in America face hunger. That is 1 in 6 of the U.S. population – including more than 1 in 5 children.  In Volusia and Flagler Counties many of our neighbors are struggling to feed their families for the first time.  Over 17,000 families live below the poverty level and are on the brink of becoming homeless.  Food  is a key  ingredient in  preventing homelessness among those living on very limited resources.
The Community Foundation of East Central Florida and the coalition of local agencies are working together to bring groups and resources together to maximize the  ability to provide food for families in need.  More people are in need and it is not just the people you think of, it could well be someone you know in your neighborhood.

We hope to bring all groups who distribute food together with others concerned about this issue for a short time for a "FOOD SUMMIT" with the hope it may lead to ways to expand everyone's capacity for food assistance.

There will be two summits:  *  In Daytona Beach at the Volusia County Health Department -1845 Holsonback Dr. on August 1st at 10 a.m.    *  In Deland at the Deland Conference Center -1301 W. International Dr. Deland on August 1st at 2PM.

A Flagler County summit is planned for early in 2013.
