July 26, 2012 - PRLog -- Young People are our Future is a community project that will educate 25,000 local young people in some key life skills that will positively affect them throughout their lives and increase their chance of getting a job when they leave school.

Young people experience three phases within the project, starting with an education in a proven life skills course designed to improve their communication and presentation skills, discipline, behaviour, personal safety and much more.

Once armed with these important skills, they are invited into a wide variety of FREE workshops where they will get to enhance these skills and get to socially interact with other within their community. These workshops will cover a number of themes including a range of sporting activities, dance, music, drama, singing and art.

Finally, those aged 14 years +, are invited into employability workshops run by professional trainers. CV writing, Mock Interviews, Voice projection training and much more will be covered.

The enthusiasm of local volunteers has been overwhelming, which has led to two local companies getting involved. The Home Retail Group and John Lewis have both demonstrated their support for the project.

The Home Retail Group have donated £20,000 worth of equipment and resources enabling the project to provide their unique services within professional surroundings.

John Lewis have selected Young People are our Future as one the charities they will be supporting under their Community Matters initiative.

This scheme allows John Lewis customers to support the project, by depositing a green token they will receive each time they shop into the Young people are our Future box situated in the “Let’s Eat” restaurant within CMK.

The projects founder, Gary Payne said “ This is a wonderful opportunity for the community of Milton Keynes to work together to provide our young people with the skills they require to become the next generation of successful community and business leaders. This project will reduce poor discipline in schools, bullying statistics, anti-social behaviour and business related crime. In the year of the Olympics, the project will be a great opportunity to get young people participating in physical activities to increase their health and wellbeing”

The Young People are our Future project will meet the following targets:

25,000 young people will be positively affected by this project
120 local people will be trained as life skills coaches for the project
60 local schools will receive the life skills training FREE within the project
100 local young people will be developed in junior life skills coaches

The project is due to be deployed from September 2012.
