"It's a defiant stance against not being enough..."
In an era where women are constantly being bombarded with images that they aren't good enough, comes a film that celebrates the feminine form.
Beautiful Women - is a documentary that stars performers from Romantasy Cabaret, Burlescapades, and Provocatease - all local Arizona burlesque groups.
Through interviews and performance footage, the film explores the central themes of burlesque, beauty and empowerment.
There have been many articles written about what burlesque is or isn't. In Beautiful Women, the answers come directly from those who get personal empowerment from performance.
In the film, the central characters discuss why they were attracted to burlesque, how they feel that the medias portrayal of women has a direct impact on a woman's self esteem, and how burlesque gives them a feeling of empowerment that nothing else can compare to.
The film also interviews an advertising executive, and a professional photographer to get an industry view on how the media portrays women.
The film is screening at The Film Bar in Phoenix September 7th-9th. The Phoenix New Times is also featuring an article on the film in this weeks edition (the week of September 1st, release September 6th)
