Linium Announces the HP CMS 10 Release – a New Asset Discovery Tool Bundle

July 25, 2012 - PRLog -- Linium (www.linium.com) an HP Software specialist partner announced today HP has reorganized its enterprise configuration-management software by bundling a number of its HP asset management tools into a single package, called Universal Discovery to equip its asset database for multi-client service. The release, HP Configuration Management System (CMS) 10, the first major software update in two years and part of the HP IT Performance, is designed to simplify the way customers procure, deploy and use HP discovery products. Universal Discovery now includes what was previously called the Desktop Management Interface (DMI). DMI is an asset management software application that enables license management by discovering desktop computers and servers to collect inventory information, such as what operating system is running, how much storage the computer has, what programs are installed, and how often the computer is run.

The new Universal Discovery bundle also includes HP Discovery and Dependency Mapping (DDM), another asset tracking tool that maps dependencies, such as what servers and databases a software program relies upon, in addition to a passive discovery tool that monitors network traffic to report what virtual machines and other software are running that is especially helpful when managing cloud services. HP hopes this new bundle will help
simplify management and data storage  for clients since all the HP asset tools store the data they collect in a common database. . The Universal Configuration Management Database (UCMDB) where all the operational data is stored, has been updated to support “multitenancy” to keep separate records for multiple business units. This feature is especially useful for large service providers such as a SaaS (software as a service) provider or a Web hosting service, by allowing them to see how you’re running their server environments in your data center or for large organizations who could use the partitioning for contractors or different business units.

Other CMS 10 updates include a new browser based interface, called HP UCMDB Browser, that might help those with less expertise such as security or application development teams navigate through the operational data more easily as well as 10 new discovery patterns, including a number for SAP's HANA database product.
