Tony, one of the original founders of the company, remains a director of AFS with specific responsibility for R&D and a continuing inspiration to the team.
David Still has worked as a wind-energy developer for more than 26 years. He has been a UK government advisor on renewable energy, and a wind turbine manufacturer with US-based, AIM- listed, Clipper Windpower. At Clipper he led the development of a 10 MW offshore wind turbine.
David developed the UK's first offshore wind farm at Blyth. For five years he was the Chairman of the British Wind Energy Association overseeing change to a business focussed organisation and led discussions with industry, Government and The Crown Estate to formulate policy for the offshore wind sector. He was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2007 for services to Energy.
On his appointment, David paid tribute to his predecessor and looked forward to the future:
“Under Tony’s leadership this business has gone from the germ of an idea to an operational fuel-from-air demonstration facility producing a variety of carbon-neutral synthetic hydrocarbon fuels and on the verge of building its first commercial plant.
In taking on this role at this exciting time in the company’s evolution, I am grateful for Tony’s continuing support. The business case for investment in our technology - with a focus on initial niche markets - is increasingly strong.
In specialist areas, such as motor sports, our first commercial fuel synthesis plant will provide many advantages and price match fossil fuels to provide a price-predictable secure supply of carbon-neutral fuel for the 20+ year life of the plant.”
