Philadelphia - July 24, 2012. ApprenNet LLC was awarded a $500,000 grant by the National Science Foundation for developing ApprenNet’s innovative LawMeets™ (www.LawMeets.com)
“Not a week goes by without some news article reporting on the failure of legal education,” noted Professor Karl Okamoto, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of ApprenNet. Okamoto is a professor of law at Drexel University’s Earle Mack School of Law in Philadelphia. “At the same time that the job opportunities at traditional law firms have diminished, the need for counselors to advise entrepreneurs or assist ordinary citizens in navigating an increasingly regulated world continues to grow. LawMeets™
With the support of the National Science Foundation, ApprenNet has launched a beta version of its online teaching platform. To date, over 1,000 lessons have been delivered. Emily Foote, ApprenNet’s VP for Curriculum stated: “With this new funding, we plan to expand our curriculum. This fall we will be offering the first ‘massive open online course’ for any law student or new lawyer who would like to learn more about doing deals. Our goal is to offer a full roster of these kinds of practical, hands-on learning courses.”
