PRLog - July 24, 2012 - • The Border Police and Cassidian have succeeded in building up the most modern and extensive border security project in Europe, a true reference for border security projects worldwide.
Cassidian and the Romanian Border Police today inaugurate the central command and control centre for the border security system in Romania.
Awarded in 2004 and extended in 2009 to cover the complete Schengen external border, phase one of the Romanian Border Security solution protects the longest land border in Europe against illegal immigration, smuggling, trafficking and terrorism while providing increased national security for Romanian citizens.
Having successfully worked in partnership with the government and the border police, the technical Schengen audit report issued in 2011 was very positive. A critical milestone has been achieved with the delivery of the Command & Control Centre, an 18 000 m² building which will host the system data centre and the national operational dispatch centre.
The technology behind the Romanian Border Security project is an integrated system with surveillance enhanced recognition and identification capabilities, operational applications for command and control with automatic vehicle location, threat analysis at border crossing and e-learning for border guards, a secure Tetra mobile communication network, all functioning over a highly reliable national data and voice communication system and supervised by an umbrella management system. Key capabilities have already been provided to the Romanian Border Police: Cassidian has installed fixed cameras and radars on many hot locations around the border, integrated in local command centres; Cassidian has delivered a complex TETRA Professional Mobile Radio-communication network on 9 external border counties; data and voice communications, as well as the infrastructure works which were also a major part of our effort. The IT applications needed to manage the operations at the border, like Command & Control, Risk Analysis, e-Learning, Automatic Vehicle Location and the overall System Management have been installed.
The performance of the system, the quality of the maintenance services and the willingness of the customer to continue to work with Cassidian to further enhance the system integration is proof of Cassidian’s success.
