Four of the local radio personalities, Tall Cathy and Mikey and Big Bob from 96.1 KISS FM, Randy from WDVE, and Abby from 105.9 the X, were all team captains. They rallied on Twitter to grow their teams and even tried to have some last minute scouting with those at the event. The number of yellow shirts present, led by a kilted Mikey and black and yellow Big Bob, was overwhelming. All the team captains had a ton of energy and were excited to get the show on the road.
As we prepared for the games, two semi trucks and one moving truck showed up filled with trash bags of water balloons. With three huge assembly lines, we were able to unload all three trucks in about an hour. We had no idea that the water balloon fight would be such a work out!
Throughout the day, we had access to great food, free beverages from Fuze, and enjoyed a free concert from bands such as, Yours Truly, Revolution Brass Band, The Composure, Court IV, and DJ J.Malls.
As we divided into our teams, the trash talking began between the different teams and all of the captains. No worries, though. It was all in good fun for a great cause!
There were over 100,000 water balloons thanks to the efforts of all the amazing volunteers, and those at the water balloon fight who helped to fill up some last minute reserves.
After the water balloon fight, which lasted an action packed thirty minutes, everyone banded together to pick up the balloon pieces in record time. Team Tassy partnered up with Allegheny Organics to make sure that those excess pieces did not go to waste. The balloon bits will be composted and used to nurture local soil this time next year.
Needless to say, Team Tassy really knows how to throw a party! To continue to donate to their cause or learn more about Team Tassy, visit teamtassy.org .
If you did not get a chance to attend this year's event, you should definitely make it a point to attend next year.
