Cooperstown Festival Features Chamber Music & Jazz

Cooperstown NY, home of the Baseball Hall of Fame and the Glimmerglass Festival, is also home to the 14 year old Cooperstown Summer Music Festival. This season the Festival offers classical music and jazz, through August 24.
 
July 23, 2012 - PRLog -- The Cooperstown Summer Music Festival, under the artistic direction of flutist Linda Chesis, continues its 14th season on July 29 with the award-winning Jupiter String Quartet. The 7:30 pm concert will be held in the Louis C. Jones Center at The Farmers’ Museum. The Jupiter String Quartet, formed in 2001, consists of violinists Nelson Lee and Megan Freivogel, violist Liz Freivogel, and cellist Daniel McDonough. They will perform works by Haydn, Bartók and Mendelssohn.

Eight Concerts in August
In August, the Festival will host a Flute Fest (August 2), the Horszowski Trio and Linda Chesis (August 5), free Pro Am Performances (August 6-8), jazz with the Tierney Sutton Band (August 12), “The Grand Tour: Vienna, Madrid & Paris” concert (with Laurie Carney, violin; Daniel Avshalomov, viola; William Grubb, cello; Shirley Irek, piano; and Linda Chesis on August 19) and the all-Beethoven Festival Finale with the Juilliard String Quartet (August 24).

About the Festival Venues
Cooperstown Summer Music Festival concerts are held in Cooperstown, NY at the following venues:

Festival concerts on July 8, 29 and August 24 will be held in a Colonial Revival stone barn at The Farmers’ Museum. This venue, known for its excellent acoustics, is an informal yet intimate concert setting. One of the oldest rural life museums in the country, The Farmers’ Museum provides visitors with a unique opportunity to experience 19th-century rural and village life. The grand Otesaga Resort Hotel will be the Festival’s home for concerts on August 2, 5, 12, and 19. A magnificent, Federal-style building, the Otesaga occupies 700 feet of lakefront on the southern shore of Lake Otsego. Concerts are held in the Ballroom. Christ Church in Cooperstown will be the site for a free Pro-Am performance on August 8. This historic church is located just south of the National Baseball Hall of Fame.


About Linda Chesis
Flutist Linda Chesis is founder and artistic director of the Cooperstown Summer Music Festival. She is a member of the flute faculty and chair of the Woodwind Department at the Manhattan School of Music. She has been hailed by critics on three continents as one of the most exciting and dynamic flutists of her generation. The top prize winner at the Paris and Barcelona International competitions, and at the National Flute Association Competition, Ms. Chesis has performed with orchestras and in solo recitals throughout the US, France, Great Britain, Germany, Japan and Korea.  Her recordings can be heard on the EMI, Nonesuch and Music Masters labels.
